Jon Nuccle is one of the true pioneers of UK Techno music. A career spanning over 25 years at the cutting edge of the genre, beginning with his groundbreaking Microdot Acid and Techno events in Leeds in 1991, which led to his weekly Dream FM Radio show in 1992 (which ran for 3 years, sandwiched between Daz Quayle’s Haywire show and Nightmares On Wax’s legendary Smoker’s Delight show), Nuccle was paramount in championing Techno music in the North of England in the early 90s.
His uncompromising DJ style quickly became the stuff of legend, leading to performances in clubs and on radio across the globe (including an hour long live mix for BBC Radio One in 2003) and eventually to a monthly residency at the legendary Orbit club in Leeds in the late nineties and early noughties.
Nuccle’s been producing quality Techno since 1993, originally as D-Kontrol (with long time collaborator Mike Humphries) through Frank De Wulf’s 2 Thumbs imprint, followed by releases under several monikers (Cold Dust, Player, D.O.M., Red Tide, Pitch Invasion, Drone, Area 51 and more) on various labels including Communique, SUF, Bush, Cluster, Kickin’ and Primate before starting his own labels Red Seal and Player (both favourites of Dave Clarke, Claude Young, Thomas Krome, Adam Beyer and Laurent Garnier, among many other top names).
His live Techno sets, both as Cold Dust (with Mike Humphries) and as Player, are generally regarded as amongst the best in the business and have rocked crowds consistently for over 20 years. Sharing the stage with the cream of world Techno DJs such as Jeff Mills, Dave Clarke, Joey Beltram, Richie Hawtin, Chris Liberator, Jay Denham, The Advent, Oscar Mulero, Robert Armani etc.
It was these incredible live performances to led to Jon and Mike becoming monthly residents at the legendary Orbit After Dark in Morley. A night that, at the time, was universally recognised (and quoted as being) the best Techno night in the world.
Nuccle also has a reputation as one of the most diverse, eclectic and psychedelic Techno DJs on the planet. Often combining DJing with live jams of loops, samples and synths, Jon is known for playing a rich selection of Acid and Techno beats, moods and rhythms (and beyond) without compromising on Dancefloor sensibilities.
Jon’s remixed a diverse range of artists from Felix Da Housecat, Thomas Krome and Mike Humphries to Chumbawamba and Wu Tang Clan and had his work remixed by Adam Beyer, Joey Beltram, Umek, Marco Bailey and Ben Sims, amongst others.
Despite the fiercely underground nature of his music, Jon has received mainstream Radio support throughout his career, including regular play from John Peel, Annie Nightingale, Dave Clarke, Fergie and even Judge Jules, who had Nuccle and Humphries’ “Player Twelve” single as record of the month on his regular Radio One show.
After some years off from Techno to work on his Hip Hop project Krimewave (working with Grammy Award Winner Timbo King from Wu Tang Clan and other Wu Tang affiliates, Shabazz The Disciple and Solomon Childs) Jon has returned to producing and performing the cutting edge Techno music he is known and loved for.
As last remaining member of the Infamous Player collective, Jon’s latest productions are every bit as rugged, diverse and imposing as has come to be expected from him.
Jon also produces Music for Film and TV, including the Multi Award winning Feature length documentary “Of Shark And Men” and soundtrack to Benjamin Oliver’s animated series “Fantastic Planet”.
